Boys & Girls Clubs of America's Youth of the Year program celebrates outstanding teen Club members who have demonstrated leadership, academic excellence, and commitment to their communities through their involvement in their Club.
CaMyra D. was named the 2024 Boys & Girls Clubs Louisiana Youth of the Year after competing for the title alongside Club members from other Louisiana Boys & Girls Clubs. She received the prestigious title along with a $2,500 scholarship prize. She will go on to compete at the Southeast Regional Youth of the Year competition in May.
CaMyra is a 5-year Club member at our Expressway Teen Center and a senior at Southern University Laboratory School. She is currently president of the Teen Center's Keystone Club, where her leadership, community service and determination truly shine.
She is the captain of her high school volleyball team, leading with passion and skill both on and off the court. She is also an honors student and is taking dual enrollment courses at Southern University.
Through her academic ambition, she has recently helped her school's team secure a first place finish in an African American History quiz bowl. Moreover, her outstanding calculus test results have qualified her for a statewide competition this month.
When she graduates, she hopes to study marketing in college and pursue a career in the field someday.
We wish her the best of luck at the Southeast Regional Youth of the Year competition and know that she will represent Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Louisiana great!
