This year's Steak & Burger, presented by Gallo Mechanical and Hancock Whitney, was a special one for Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Louisiana, as it brought the community together at the Baton Rouge Marriott to raise funds and awareness, showcasing the incredible potential of local youth while enjoying a night filled with great food, inspiring stories, and stellar performances.
Guests were seated at unique outer space themed tables, each adorned with creative decorations that transported attendees into a cosmic atmosphere. Upon entry to the ballroom, guests were given a ticket they could use to vote for their favorite solar system model that were each created by our Clubs. Big congratulations to the Slidell Club, McKinley Elementary, and the Expressway Teen Center for being our winners. Guests were also urged to visit the photobooth and the galactic treat bar, which featured everyone's favorite out-of-this-world treats like Moon Pies, freeze dried candy, Starburst and more!
Each table contained a pail of questions that guests could ask the Club members sitting at their table. Questions such as "what do you want to be when you grow up?" to "what superhero power would you choose to have?" kept the conversation going. Guests were also entertained by various Club performances throughout the night, including the National Anthem sung by Slidell Club member Wykeem S., covers of Whitney Houston's "I Want to Dance With Somebody" and Lil Durk's "All My Life" by the Expressway Park Teen Center choir, and a trumpet rendition of Lauryn Hill's "Ready or Not" by Glasgow Club Member Bobby J. III.
The night also featured speeches from guests like Dr. Sian Proctor, a SpaceX astronaut and CaMyra D., the 2024 Metro Louisiana and State Youth of the Year. Their inspiring words emphasized the importance of community support in creating great futures for young people.
As the evening drew to a close, the excitement and connections made throughout the night reminded everyone present that together, we can empower the next generation to reach for the stars.
