My Hair, My CROWN: Dove's Newest Self-Esteem Project

Our Club members recently participated in the Dove Self-Esteem Project titled "My Hair, My CROWN." In this workshop, members were mentored by Empowerment Speaker and Dove Self-Esteem Educator Dre Brown and Black Actress and Author Asha Bromfield as they helped our members boost hair confidence with coils, curls, waves and protective styles, as well as build allyship in others to Create a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair. Our great mentors and volunteers created a safe and open space for our members to discuss how stereotypes and experiences can affect self-esteem.

Our members also traveled to the mural unveil designed by New Orleans native, Journey Allen. This colorful mural stands strong with Governor John Bel Edwards' recent signing of the CROWN Act into law, in an effort to protect people, especially those with natural hair, from hair-based discrimination. This is the nation's second Crown Act mural, with the other being located in Washington D.C.
