Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Louisiana hosted just one of the 8,000+ Lights On Afterschool nationwide events on October 24, shining a light on the importance of afterschool programs for America's children, families and communities.
The glow party themed event featured fun activities, interactive games, and educational resources that encouraged participation while promoting the value of afterschool engagement. Families were invited to enjoy the evening all while learning how afterschool programs like Boys & Girls Clubs provide essential support and opportunities for youth to grow beyond the classroom.
From inflatable obstacle courses and basketball to Mario Kart and snoballs, guests had a blast! Community partners such as Just Kids Dental, the East Baton Rouge Parish Library, and LSU's College of Human Sciences and Education even brought their own engaging activities and resources for guests to enjoy.
The Lights On spirit even extended statewide with Governor Jeff Landry declaring October 24 "Lights On Afterschool Day" in the state of Louisiana. Tiger Stadium even lit up blue in support of local afterschool programs.
For every child enrolled in an afterschool program in Louisiana, four more are waiting to get in, emphasizing the need for these programs around the country.
