At just 18 years old, Reniyah J. is already proving that dedication, leadership, and resilience can shape a future without limits.
Selected from among three remarkable finalists across the state, Reniyah has been named the 2025 Louisiana Youth of the Year by Boys & Girls Clubs of America—a prestigious honor that celebrates young people who embody leadership, academic excellence, healthy living, and a readiness for life and career success. As part of this recognition, Reniyah has earned a $2,500 college scholarship sponsored by Kohl’s and will now advance to compete for the Southeast Regional Youth of the Year title this summer.
A proud 11-year member of the Slidell Boys & Girls Club, Reniyah has consistently exemplified the values that Boys & Girls Clubs strive to instill. A senior in high school, she leads both on and off the field as a varsity cheer captain, softball team member, and ROTC officer. Her ability to balance academics, athletics, leadership, and community service showcases her extraordinary spirit and work ethic.
Beyond her activities at school, Reniyah has spent nearly five years working as a junior staff member at her Club, serving as a mentor, leader, and role model for younger members. Her dream is to continue her journey of service by pursuing a career in nursing, with the goal of becoming a neonatal nurse—dedicated to nurturing the youngest and most vulnerable among us.
“We are incredibly proud of Reniyah and all the Youth of the Year nominees,” said Angel Nelson, President and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Louisiana. “Being named Youth of the Year is a lifelong honor and accomplishment. As the Louisiana Youth of the Year, Reniyah will serve as a spokesperson for Boys & Girls Club kids and teens across the state who need more role models that they can admire and emulate.”
As Louisiana Youth of the Year, Reniyah will continue to advocate for teens across the state, shining a light on the power of opportunity, mentorship, and perseverance. This summer, she will join other state winners in vying for the Southeast Regional Youth of the Year title. Regional winners receive an additional $20,000 scholarship—and if Reniyah advances to the national competition this fall, she will compete for the coveted title of National Youth of the Year, an additional $50,000 scholarship, and a brand-new Toyota Corolla.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Louisiana is proud to celebrate Reniyah’s accomplishments and inspire the next generation of leaders to dream big, work hard, and never give up.
